Abstract: The article examines the state and prospects for the development of the agricultural sector in Latin America, as well as the region‘s contribution to global food production. Quantitative indicators for the production and export of the main agricultural and fish products for individual countries of the region are given. The role of the agro-industrial complex (AIC) in the economy and foreign trade of Latin American states is analyzed. Similar parameters of the Russian agro- industrial complex are used as a comparison and comparative analysis. An assessment of some economic measures of state support for agriculture in the countries of the region is given. Russia‘s cooperation with Latin American states in the agricultural sphere is considered separately in the light of their readiness to take advantage of the opening opportunities to increase the export of their products against the background of the Russian food embargo against the West. In conclusion, the emphasis is placed on one of the measures to support the export of Russian agricultural products - the introduction of the post of agricultural attache to the staff of our diplomatic missions in a number of Latin American countries.
