Abstract:
Small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) and family businesses are encouraged to be institutionalized to overcome the problems associated with uncertainty and growth. It seems that the term is attached variety of different meanings in Turkish context, very far from the original institutional theory. Even fundamental organizational principles and generally accepted business practices are suggested as methods towards institutional transformation. The study aims to better understand the perspectives of entrepreneurs and professional managers towards institutionalization. Thus, understanding their expectations from the concept of institutionalization will help better grasp the problems of SMEs and family businesses and come up with appropriate solutions.
