Abstract:
On the background of growing environmental problems in the North Sea and the Baltic Sea area, co-operation between the adjacent states of both sea areas has intensified during the last decades. The article gives an overview over existing international environment agreements regarding the North Sea and the Baltic Sea areas and evaluates successes and failures of these agreements. Since the results indicate that international environment co-operation in the case of the Baltic Sea has been more successful compared to the North Sea area, possible reasons for these differences are finally discussed.
