Abstract: Most valuable resources that a company could have are human resources and according to that, all aspects related to them should be at the top of importance. In this paper, all aspects of motivation and leadership styles are analyzed according to McGregor's Theory X and Theory Y. Literature and knowledge are systematized to analyze the emergence, creation and understanding Theory X/Y. Employee preferences and style of leadership present in scientific practice are explored by method of survey (n = 40) on the example of the Institute of agriculture and tourism in Porec. The aim of this work is to prove the presence of Theory X in today's times when we consider that we have already far away from it, also take into account the preferences of employees and emphasize what the principal (leader) should be.
