Abstract: Like other areas of supply chain management, there is a talent gap in the procurement career field. Some of this gap may be the result of internal training within companies; however, part of it can be traced to what future supply chain managers and procurement professionals are learning or not learning while studying at colleges and universities. The goal of this paper is to look at what procurement professionals are expected to know, what hiring officials are looking for, and what is being taught at the college and university level. Based on this, recommendations are made on how to improve the quality of academic programmes to improve the quality of our procurement professionals.
