Abstract:
This paper presents a topical subject in today’s Iran: urban regeneration as an objective of society. The paper attempts to find solutions for problems arising from, among others, a lack of financial resources, migration of the labour force and gentrification in the urban regeneration process. It concludes that the level of urban regeneration in Iran is far from meeting the worldwide new urbanism standards. Urban design focused on traditional forms aimed at putting an end to urban sprawl and the decline of cities is insufficiently addressed in Iran and the paper proposes a framework and tools for a way forward.
