Is There a Relationship Between Digital Banking Transaction Volume and Economic Growth? Evidence from the Turkish Economy

Levent Sezal

Economic Studies journal, 2025, issue 8, 81-97

Abstract: The main objective of the study is to investigate the relationship between digital banking transaction volumes and economic growth in Turkiye. In the study, ARDL (Autoregressive Distributed Lag Border Test) test, one of the cointegration tests, was applied. In order to determine whether there is causality between the variables and if there is a causality relationship, it was analysed mutually with the "Toda-Yamamoto" method. In the study, it is concluded that the growth rate of digital banking transaction volume and the growth rate of gross domestic product variable are long-run cointegrated in the relevant period. According to the short-run asymmetric relationship results, changes in digital banking transaction volume do not have an asymmetric effect on gross domestic product. According to the Todo-Yamamoto test results, it is concluded that there is a mutual Granger causality relationship between the variables.
