Musical Taste and Preference of Students in Some Selected Colleges of Education in Ghana

Abstract: There are many musical types that are found in Ghana. The primary ones are Art, Popular and Traditional musical types. This study sought to explain the differences that exist between these three musical types and also find out which of them is the preferred choice among students of some selected Colleges of Education in Ghana, so that, the students preferred musical type could be used to communicate with them in the academic space on the campuses. In order to seek the answers for the study, 300 students were sampled using Convenience and Random sampling techniques. With interview, questionnaire and Observation as the research instruments. The study revealed that, majority of the respondents like the Popular musical type over the Art and Traditional types. This could inform policy makers on education in the Colleges whether to use popular musical type as a teaching strategy since it goes down well with the majority of the student body.
