Abstract: A multitude of divergent interpretations exist about sustainability, the most of which originate from enduring European customs surrounding the use of natural resource management. Anthropology is based on the same ontology that caused the global ecological crisis, which marked the beginning of the new era in which we live. We can offer a different perspective on the concept of sustainability by recognizing that anthropologists have a responsibility to demonstrate the importance of social, cultural, and ontological diversity for resilience, adaptation and sustainable innovation.
