Abstract: This research paper examines the role of civil society, including Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and social movements, in promoting democratic governance and protecting human rights across Africa. It explores the various ways civil society actors contribute to a stronger Pan-African democratic landscape, while acknowledging the challenges they face. The paper will discuss how NGOs advocate for policy change, monitor elections, and empower citizens. Social movements will be examined for their role in mobilizing communities and raising awareness of human rights abuses.
