Abstract: Internal displacement has been a growing concern worldwide. In Nigeria, internal displacement has been an issue since 1960, with millions of people forced to leave their homes due to violence, natural disasters, and political instability. In 2009, with the prevalence of the Boko-Haram insurgency, more than two million people were stated to be internally displaced. This study examines the physical and social impacts of internal displacement in Nigeria, focusing on the challenges faced by internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the camps. This study reviewed existing literature to highlight the different causes of internal displacement and the psychological, social, and physical impacts on internal displacement and coping mechanisms. In addition, this paper discusses the role of government and non-governmental interventions in providing psychosocial support and addressing the well-being of displaced persons. Finally, this study calls for enhanced policies, improved living conditions, and long-term mental health interventions to ensure a better quality of life for displaced individuals.
