Relationship between Resilience and Psychological Wellbeing of In-School Adolescents in Adentan Municipality, Ghana

Abstract: Resiliency has been linked with positive mood and general wellbeing among young people. This study examined the relationship between resilience and psychological wellbeing of in-school adolescents in Adentan Municipality, Ghana. The quantitative approach was adopted for the study and the design for the study was the descriptive cross-sectional survey. A sample of 350 in-school adolescents were selected using proportional stratified random sampling for the study. Data were collected using questionnaire made up of the Brief Resilience Scale and the Adolescent Wellbeing Scale. Means, standard deviations and simple linear regression were used in analysing the data. The results showed that the respondents had low level of resilience. Similarly, it was found that the level of psychological wellbeing of the respondents was generally low. Finally, the study revealed that resilience had a significant impact on psychological wellbeing. School counsellors should collaborate with teachers and carry out assessment for at-risk students to find out those who have low resilience and psychological wellbeing so that assistance can be provided for such students. It was recommended that school counsellors in senior high schools organize guidance programmes for students on the subject of being resilient. This can help improve the resilience levels of students and thereby improve their psychological wellbeing.
