Abstract: The health status of Ghanaian prisoners has long been poor. Prisoners are frequently stigmatized by society. They are seen and considered, as individuals who have committed major crimes and hence are unworthy of equal treatment, particularly when it comes to healthcare access. Nonetheless, equitable access to healthcare for prisoners is required by a 1992 Ghanaian constitution provision as well as a United Nations resolution. The study investigates healthcare availability among prisoners in Ghana, focusing on Manhyia Local Prison. This qualitative study gives a basis for understanding the general circumstances and healthcare accessibility in Ghana by looking at inmates’ health conditions.
