Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations (ICRIER) Report from Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations (ICRIER), New Delhi, India

Abstract: India accounts for around 12 per cent of global honey exports and ranks among the world's top exporters, but trade is highly concentrated in the United States and dominated by bulk, low-value shipments, exposing exporters to tariff shocks and volatile unit values. The report identifies challenges in quality compliance, market access, productivity, over-reliance on mustard honey, fragmented value chains, and weak branding of GI-tagged and specialty honeys. It proposes a phased strategy of market diversification (Europe, East Asia, Middle East), value addition (organic/GI honeys, beeswax, propolis, royal jelly), quality assurance, farmer institution-building, and branding under the APEDA–ICRIER Knowledge Partnership.
