Abstract: This study introduces a methodology that combines Banca d'Italia's Survey of Industrial and Service Firms (Invind) with Istat's Frame-SBS archive to estimate changes in firms' turnover for unplanned domains, namely, levels of detail finer than those envisaged in the original sampling design (for instance, economic sectors at the regional level). Linking the two data sources yields a substantial reduction in the Mean Squared Error (MSE) of the estimators, largely driven by the strong temporal autocorrelation of the target variable. In addition to supporting the estimation phase, the Frame-SBS archive can also inform sample design. Our analyses indicate that achieving reliable estimates in currently unplanned domains would require increasing the sample size in the services sector and in specific regions, particularly Lombardy and Lazio.
