Updates on herbal remedy for kidney stone chronic disease

Abstract: This review paper highlights the potentiality of medicinal plants in the kidney stone disease activity. Urolithiasis is a common disorder which has affected a considerable number of people worldwide. The problem of urinary stones or calculi is one of the major health disorder and many remedies including herbal have been employed. Kidney stones are called as renal calculi. Kidney stones are associated with chronic kidney disease. Kidney stones may cause extreme pain and blockage of urine flow. Kidney stones are a risk factor for chronic kidney disease and progression to end-stage renal disease. Persons with kidney stones are more likely to have traditional risk fac¬tors for chronic kidney disease (e.g., hyper¬tension, pre-existing kidney disease, diabetes, proteinuria, albuminuria). Drug therapy medications, such as protease inhibitors, antibiotics, and some diuretics, increase the risk of some types of kidney stones. Managing diet, medication use, and nutrient intake can help to prevent the formation of kidney stones. Obe¬sity increases the risk of kidney stones. Medicinal plants are used as urolithotriptic agents. This review paper is aimed to explore and documentation of available herbal treatment for kidney stones. Some of the plant species listed in this review paper have the potential active compounds and may aid researchers for the future study of natural products, which may be useful to treat kidney stones.
