Between History and Literature. Madame de Crayencour and Scientific Culture of the Sixteenth Century

Abstract: The relationship between history and literature is very close: literature is a product of each country's culture. In this paper the author analyzes the literary activity of Marguerite Youcenar (1903-1988) who in her works had revived the History of Rome, of Catholic Belgium, of Netherlands Calvinist, of Lutheran Gemany. In her masterpieces, the History is always present, it’s a vital core. In Mémoires d'Hadrien (1951) she speaks about the Roman Empire and the wars against the barbarians. In L’Oevre au noire (1968) she illustrates the complex history of the Lutheran Reformation and Counter- Reformation and finally in Archives du nord (1977) the main characters are her childhood, her relationship with father and her family’s history. Marguerite Youcenar combines history and literature in an indissoluble link that makes it very interesting and fascinating
