Abstract:
I was honored to have been selected to receive the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2022. I thank the System Dynamic Society and the Award Committee for finding me worthy of this award. This paper is based on the talk that I delivered in Frankfurt in the award ceremony at ISDC 2022. I first provide a brief history of my acquaintance with system sciences and system dynamics, followed by a summary of our teaching and research activities, particularly in the past 30 years. By underlining the strong two‐way interaction between teaching and research, I emphasize the significant role students played in our research activities. In applied research, I highlight our recent focus on bio‐medical and health modeling. In methodological research, I focus on our structure‐oriented model credibility testing efforts. Finally, I offer some lessons learned and reflections on the current state of the system dynamics field, recent developments in related fields, and implications for education, research, and practice of system dynamics.
