STRIPPLOT: Stata module for strip plots (one-way dot plots)

Nicholas Cox

Statistical Software Components from Boston College Department of Economics

Abstract: strip plots data as a series of marks against a single magnitude axis. By default this axis is horizontal. With the option vertical it is vertical. Optionally, data points may be stacked or cumulated into histogram- or dotplot-like or distribution or quantile function displays. The default results of strip are fairly trivial, as if you had called up a scatter plot of a variable of interest and a variable created as some constant. The power of the command lies in its options. To that end, run the examples: the code for the examples is included in a do-file alongside this help file and the ado file. The older stripplot routine plots data as a series of marks against a single magnitude axis, horizontal or vertical. It is an Stata 8 alternative to gr7, oneway or dotplot with more flexibility in several respects. Its predecessor, onewplot, remains available to users of Stata 7 or Stata 6 as a separate module.
