ENTROPYETC: Stata module for entropy and related measures for categories
Nicholas Cox
Statistical Software Components from Boston College Department of Economics
Abstract:
entropyetc treats a single supplied variable, numeric or string, as categorical, so that distinct values define distinct categories, and calculates the number of distinct categories observed, Shannon entropy H, exp H, Simpson's sum of squared probabilities R and 1/R. entropyetc2 is the previous version, similar in principle, but different in detail and implementation. It is renamed but kept on SSC to allow reproduction of results by the previous version. The major issue with this version is that it could fail when asked to produce results for very large numbers of categories.
Language: Stata
Requires: Stata version 8.2 (entropyyetc), 11.2 (entropyetc2)
Keywords: inequality; diversity; concentration; entropy; Shannon; Simpson; Gini; Herfindahl; Hirschman; Turing (search for similar items in EconPapers)
