Abstract:
The study deals with the evolution of the agricultural sector in Greece during the 1995-2014 period at the level of gross value added, gross investments and employment, as well as with the evolution of the corresponding figures for the whole economy. Furthermore, the evolution of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) over time and its effect on the figures under review are also examined. The primary sector has shown remarkable resilience during the crisis, while the new CAP, which will apply until 2020, favours, apart from farmers on large farms, young farmers as well as small farmers who seek after modern, high-quality and specialised crops or the so-called “green” agriculture.
