Abstract: In the last period, the Romanian profile market is the subject of introducing new modern-concept timber harvesting machines. This represents a partial technological progress due the fact that despite their introducing in forest operations, the design, organizing and harvesting control activities are still empirically or not at all realized. This is a consequence of a lack of knowledge (available data) in such tasks on national level. In this context, the paper presents the new technologies in timber harvesting (available on the Romanian market) as well as the need (problems to be solved in the closer future) for a sustainable development in timber harvesting using these technologies.
