Abstract: The industrial use of robots and the associated changes in economic and social relationships are a rapidly growing field of research. In this article, Anne Jurkat, Rainer Klump and Florian Schneider provide an overview of the data sources and current results of empirical research on the use of robots. After presenting the focal research areas, they discuss the different levels of analysis and the three most important effects of robotization (productivity, substitution and reinstatement effect). As a last point, they analyze current economic policy strategies for dealing with robotics in Germany which aim at securing competitiveness and technological sovereignty.
