Abstract: Financing the investments required for the transition towards renewable energies will require considerable financial resources in the coming decades. This also applies to cooperatives that operate in the field of renewable energies. This article analyses the specific challenges and examines theoretically which forms of financing are promising for cooperatives, particularly in external financing. The results are illustrated and empirically verified using two practical examples.
