Abstract:
Universities in international networks as focal points for technological innovation in developing countries? Experience from Costa Rica and considerations for further research. Empirical evidence suggests that in an overall setting of low technological capabilities, some regions in Latin America are successfully commercialising high-tech products. The observed dynamics is based on small networks centred around technical universities linked to international knowledge communities. The Triple-helix-approach may successfully guide research on late-comer development of technological capabilities.
