Abstract:
A major concern of professional accountants and accounting educators is to develop students? self-directed learning abilities in order to enable them to adapt to changing environment and knowledge in their future career, as well as during their university studies. This paper reports on a self-directed learning activity that took place within a group of 39 students registered in a financial accounting course offered in the last year of a bachelors degree in accounting. Students? answers to a questionnaire survey indicate that they found the experience gained through the self-directed learning activity will be useful to them in the future in facilitating their individual study. Further, students were satisfied with the learning activity and they believe that the activity enhanced their self-directed learning abilities.
