Abstract:
This article uses a survey of French establistment with 20 or more employees to study the connections between shorter working hours and organisational changes. In the nineties, shorter working hours seemed part of an effort to adapt the work organisation to the technological environment, initially by investing in information and communication technologies and subsequently by reducing working hours and extending organisational innovation through multitasking and just-in-time techniques.
