Commentaires sur « Migration et développement: les externalités de la diaspora »

Toman Barsbai

Revue d’économie du développement, 2017, vol. 25, issue 1, 69-73

Abstract: In the migration-development nexus, the diaspora has often been studied through the lenses of the financial flows it provides to the origin country. H. Rapoport?s paper provides insight into the spillovers the diaspora has beyond remittances, highlighting them with the most recent findings from the literature. First, this commentary emphasizes the need to use general equilibrium frameworks in analyzing externalities, as these allow a complete picture of the interlinkages between migration and the various outcomes. Moreover, I argue that, due to restrictive immigration policies, the observed positive externalities of the diaspora are only the lower bound of the actual effect.
