Analyse du processus concurrentiel dans les services des télécommunications au Congo: l'incidence des externalités de réseau et de la réglementation sur la dynamique du secteur de la téléphonie

Innovations, 2005, vol. 21, issue 1, 217-242

Abstract: The congolese market of telecommunications has undergone profound changes since the implementation of the May, 26 law n?14-97 which allowed its opening to competition. The ONPT (becoming SOTELCO since may 2003) which has long remained in a position of monopoly has now to share the market with private operators. But the deregulation movement which prevails in this sector still grants ONPT monopoly on basic services which plays a structuring role in Telecommunications, thus placing it in a dominant position. In the cellular phone market, the dynamic exploitation of network externalities by Celtel determines its part of the market and the competitive position of its direct rivals Cyrus and Libertis. Thus the dynamics of Congolese phone market is under the impetus of the network economies and regulation.
