Abstract: This article presents the impact of competition on the performance of MFIs in Burkina Faso. We expected a negative correlation between competition and performance of MFIs, but the basic model shows the opposite. The expanded model confirms the positive impact when the competition is led by providers of microfinance services ?in the strict sense? and differentiated impact when competition is led by providers ?in the large sense?.
