La photographie, prisme de lecture et enjeu révélateur du système de l'aide internationale

Virginie Troit

Mondes en développement, 2014, vol. n° 165, issue 1, 119-131

Abstract: This article aims to show the relevance of a visual perspective to decrypt the dynamics of the international aid system and calls for the integration of visual media when reflecting on the transition of humanitarian aid. Through the use of photography by aid actors, this proposes a periodization of the relationship between organizations and photography, divided into four periods. Each period sheds light on the choices made regarding the role of visual media, in the practices and policies of aid and its effects Thus pictures, represent, reproduce and drive a system that they manage to objectify, to transform and to hide.
