Abstract:
In this study we attempt to understand the effects of the level of democracy, the duration of colonization, and renewable energies on households? access to energy in the ECOWAS. We use a panel methodology, and our sample comprises the 15 ECOWAS countries over the period 1990?2016 for access to electricity and 2000?2016 for access to modern energy for cooking. Our results indicate significant effects of the level of democracy and renewable electricity on the rate of access to electricity.
