Mondes en développement, 2023, vol. n° 201, issue 1, 29-50

Abstract: This article analyzes the distribution of industrial sector employment in Tunisia at the delegation administrative level over the period 2003?2018 and shows to what extent the development policies applied after the revolution of January 14, 2011 have reduced regional inequalities in this sector. Our study shows Tunisia's entry into a new stage of development characterized by regional specialization in high-tech industries. We also assess the evolution of the spatial concentration of employment, using exploratory spatial data analysis. Our results show that despite a post-revolution decline in the concentration of overall employment, a local clustering of employment is still observed in the coastal region. The study also reveals that the employment concentration of low-tech industries declined after the revolution and spread over more delegations, while the spatial concentration of medium and high-tech industries increased.
