Abstract:
Inequalities in access to higher education in France are due to several factors including the counselling practices within secondary schools, which are the focus of this article. Using qualitative data from Parisian High Schools, the author analyzes these practices around two main dimensions : the « channelling » of students? choices and the monitoring of their projects. She shows significant differences between schools, which are likely to increase the gap between social groups.
