L'analyse des « chertés alimentaires » par Jules Dupuit (1859) et la théorie de la hiérarchie des besoins de René Roy (1943)

Jean-Pascal Simonin

Revue économique, 2009, vol. 60, issue 6, 1455-1467

Abstract: This text compares Roy?s theory of the scale of needs (1943) to Dupuit?s theory of dearth (1859). It sets first Roy?s modelling of the scale of needs, his criticism by Marschak (1943) and the analysis of dearth by Dupuit. It shows that the hypotheses raised by Roy are exactly those posed by Dupuit and that the conclusions obtained by Dupuit can be demonstrated by using the Roy?s article and an earlier article (Roy [1930]). The whole confirms that the influence exerted economic thought ?classic? French nineteenth century on the first works of Roy. Classification JEL : B12, B21, D11.
