Abstract: Libertarian paternalism is nowadays one of the main proposals within normative economics. Libertarian paternalism relies on researches and findings in behavioural economics in order to show that it is efficient and morally justified for public authorities to use heuristics and cognitive biases to induce individuals to better reach their own preferences. After presenting the very roots of libertarian paternalism, we show that this new conception of public regulation cannot be considered only as a synthesis between classical liberalism and paternalism but needs to rethinking freedom on a new conception of individual.
