Abstract:
This article examines the effect of earnings from labour marketon conjugal stability. Using data from luxembourg?spanels collected during the period 1980-2000, we try to measure the impact of spouses? earnings and the impact of earnings dynamics on the risk of break down (of married and unmarried couples). The results show an asymmetrical gender impact of earnings on couple stability: when the earnings? gaps are in favor of women, the risk of break down increases while when the earnings of men increase, the opposite result is observed. These results are not specific to Luxembourg, but were also highlighted in several other European countries. Classification JEL : E24, J12, J21, J24, J3
