Abstract: ?This article studies the role of digitalization and territory on the innovativeness of firms. More precisely, we investigate the factors determining the innovativeness of small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs), stressing the firm?s location and its ability to use digital tools. The empirical investigation focuses on the innovative capacity of a representative sample of 1.253 SMEs, complemented by data concerning the location of the firms. Our data show that the firm?s innovativeness is less dependent on the location of the firm than on its own characteristics. Especially, multi-location and digitalization have a positive effect on the innovative capacity of the firm. We then test the hypothesis of a differentiated effect of the digital resources of the firm on its innovativeness, depending on its location. The results of the models do not validate this hypothesis.?
