Abstract:
This article deals with the issue of the organizational emergence through an approach based on the project. Underlining the artificial dimension of the entrepreneurial project (Simon, 1971) and the design activities it requires (Avenier and Schmitt, 2008, 2009), several authors defend the idea of a Project-Based View (PBV) to address the entrepreneurial process in a dynamic and collective perspective (Lindgren and Packendorff, 2003 ; Hjorth, 2008 ; Bouchikhi, 1990, 1993 ; Bréchet, Schieb-Bienfait and Desreumaux, 2009 ; Schmitt, 2006a, b ; c ; Schmitt and Bayad, 2008). With a longitudinal case study, this article explores entrepreneurial projects on different scales of action (Dewey), with several commitment levels. With this case, considered as an instrument (according to Stake, 1994), the analysis power of Project-Based View is questioned. In a pragmatic perspective, we discuss contexts and entrepreneurial situations for which the PBV seems the most fertile and the design methods or heuristics which would allow to make it more operational.
