Abstract:
The aim of our study is to gain insight into the banker-very small business (VSB) owner relationship in order to better understand the financing practices and requirements of VSBs. With the help of research from the areas of entrepreneurial financing, networks, and social capital, we investigate the way in which the banker-VSB owner relationship contributes to the entrepreneurial dynamics of the VSB. Adopting a qualitative approach, we conducted our research with twelve VSBs in two French regions. Our results show how both the nature and strength of the relationship impact the development of the business. They lead us to propose a model that identifies four types of banker-VSB owner relationships.
