Abstract:
This article examines whether corporate governance could improve the performance of mergers and acquisitions in France?s high-tech sector. We show that high-tech firms with efficient governance achieve significantly higher returns than those with weak governance. The effects of governance are greater in the high-tech sector than in other industry sectors. It seems that governance reduces the high intensity of conflicts related to innovation process difficulties. Lastly, acquiring small innovative companies creates more value.
