Abstract: The first part of this article proposes four approaches of urban systems and attempts to characterize the related sustainability issues. The second part seeks to highlight the issue of environmental inequalities in urban systems thus characterized, at the crossroads of spatial and environmental justice. The third part takes up the four approaches defined in the first part to show, in the case of France, how to define and measure urban environmental inequalities. JEL Codes: Q3, Q5, D3, D6.
