Abstract:
Supporting place-based farming in peri-urban areas supposes new relationships between urban life and agricultural activities. This article focuses on two dimensions of these relationships: the partnerships between territorial and farming institutions and the perceptions of farming elaborated locally. In the urban area of Toulouse, 30 interviews, observations of various meetings and analysis of public documents allowed us to identify a large number of partnerships, at several scales, between urban and agricultural institutions. First limited to the topic of farm lands protection, new partnerships appear, at the inter-communal scale, for the implementation of new place-based farming projects. They involve new kinds of actors. An illustration at that scale highlights the ongoing building of alternative perceptions of local farming, more easily linked to the local issues, and opening new venues for a higher diversity of interventions for designing and supporting farming projects.
