La demande pour des services urbains d'eau potable: une analyse du consentement à payer des ménages bamakois et de quartiers précaires de Ouagadougou

Abstract: This paper analyzes the determinants of the demand for two urban water services (tap connection, standpost) and the explanatory factors of the acceptability of payment of the cost of connection using microdata from surveys conducted in Bamako and in precarious districts of Ouagadougou in 2011. This study, conducted as part of a contingent valuation is essential firstly, to study the feasibility of projects for improve water services and secondly, to enlighten subsidy policies to be implemented. This closeness with people we have encountered has led to innovative empirical results. Households in precarious districts of Ouagadougou choose the tap connection which is considered more attractive than in Bamako, given its subsidization. The choice of improved access to safe water supply depends on the sanitation system used by the household. The specificities of the household's behaviour must be taken into account in policies aimed at promoting water urban services.
