Abstract:
The concept of proximity has an international infatuation as an original tool for analyzing the spatial dimension of economic and social phenomena. The objective of this paper is to return to the evolution of this notion in relation to the research group "Dynamics of Proximity" analyzed as a community of knowledge. From specific a database listing the group's productions between 1990 and 2014, we use social network analysis to characterize the consolidation of the framework. We identified three main stages of the group evolution linked with the enrichment of this notion. The paper shows that the work of conceptualization and operationalization conducted by the group has made it a concept widely used by researchers but also practitioners. Paradoxically, this success leads to a divestment by the community of initial knowledge whose boundaries tend to merge with other scientific groups.
