Abstract:
In Senegal, agricultural insurance based on climatic indices has been piloted since 2013, offering coverage against rainfall deficit-related shocks to commercial and subsistence farmers. Based on a sample of 133 insured and non-insured farmers, this paper presents the results of a contingent valuation and subsequent estimation of the factors that relate to respondents? willingness to pay for insurance coverage. An ordinal logistic regression analysis shows that farmers in the area with higher levels of income, those with access to credit, and with experience in insurance are more likely to have a higher willingness to pay.
