Abstract: How the division between paid employees and entrepreneurial contractors did evolve during time in France? A historical assessment, at the same time quantitative and qualitative, is necessary to understand the play of the forces in presence in the research of an unstable balance between paid positions and statutes of independent contractors. The recourse to the history is then essential for better locating the position hinge of the current time on this significant and crucial topic for the economic future of our country.
