Abstract:
The analysis of real career paths demonstrate the persistence of managerial, intra-organizational paths: the career of French « cadres » are not « boundaryless ». To supplement these observations, here we try to verify if the boundaryless careers accumulate more gains than others. A boundaryless career is defined, in this article, in that it derogates from the institutionalized career scripts. The Career Quality scale is used to measure the gains of trajectories. The study is completed by the analysis of the influence of career self-management attitude on career quality. The results (784 French « cadres ») show that lesser executives are boundaryless, the higher the quality of their careers is. These results allow to discuss the relevance of career scripts to address the co-construction (individual and institutional) of careers.
