Abstract:
Funeral insurance has been growing at an accelerated pace since the year 2000 in France; and financial companies like insurance and bancassurance entered the funeral market. This article describes what it?s at stake with such trend changes by focusing on how this financial industries play an intermediary role in the purchase of funerals. It shows that the qualification of the ?mandate? between the family, the insurer and the funeral home are at the heart of the professional and competitive challenges within the sector. Drawing on the concept of ?organizational agencement? proposed by J. Girin, the paper describes the emergence of new market intermediaries, the funeral assistance platforms, which could play a decisive role in controlling the interface between Bancassurance and funeral business networks.
