Abstract:
Moral legitimacy is a central issue for morally contested activities such as funeral services. However innovation in such activities received a scant attention in the literature. Based on the insights derived from the study of the introduction of online funeral ceremony broadcasting in France, this work uncovers the moral legitimacy strategies of innovation within morally contested activities. The results show four moral legitimacy strategies: reinsurance, utilitarian, teleological and humanizing.
